They're keeping storage down so the old D2 pack ratz won't be stocking up on stuff they'll never use. If you're running out of room in storage and on your characters then you need to sell some stuff...lol

The same materials you need at the beginning of the game are likely similar to the ones you'll need near the end. I'm a packrat though, and so I have a mule who does nothing but carry dyes, materials, upgrades and runes. I sell off my upgrades and runes as needed but hold on to all materials and dyes. I now have about 50 dyes (and one of them is black! that's pretty damn crazy!) and I have over 1000 planks of wood, around 500 iron ingots, 50-70 steel, 500 glittering dusts, 500 bones, 250 of lots of other things... it's fun this way. I don't do it for trade, I do it for the same reason that crazy npc's collect shrivelled eyes. For this, I would LOVE to see more storage space

<agrees with Slug>
wel, since the name of the game (no, i dont mean its guild wars hehe) seems to be to make players pay for upgrading stuff all the time (bags..i mean i want another opening thingy so my bag bolds as much as my backpack!) then wy not have a rune of opening that makes your stash hold more items? same amount of cash storage, but have up to 2 upgrade runes for all the things but the belt pouch and the backpack, so that they can be upgraded more
i have the same prob as slug, i collect the materials and the dyes, and end up having a bag full of mats and a bag for dyes on my main char...
(thought, if we had a guild stash, buyable for say, 1k small, 2k, med and 3k large, and i could get that from the xuni too, i would keep dyes n mats in there for the whole guild help thing)

Giving people more storage space just props up the ideal of greed.
Purchasing larger storage space only emphasizes this even more. The haves continue to get more and more.

I think the game mechanics itself contributes to this packrat mentality (I have been one since the good ole days of Wizardry back in the 80's). First, we have the Tapestry Shred with no idea what it's for except for some broken quest that the devs are "aware of." Then we have Gwen's broken flute.
On top of that, we have a runaway economics system - the "I'm not selling my Sup Rune of *** for 2k when it might be worth twice that somewhere down the road" mentality!! Couple that with all the quest items we need to carry at one time or another (and that great Battle Axe of Super Charr Destruction that will come in handy for a guild buddy of mine), in addition to our own weapons sets, and even what may look like more than enough storage ends up being less than half of what we really need.
Just look at the myriad of weapons and upgrades. My Warrior is nearly chok full of various Swords, Hammers, and Axes - each for dealing max damage on a specific type of monster in specific area of the game. I don't want to get rid of a weapon or focus item until I know I don't need it or I come across a better one. In the mean time, I need a place to store all this stuff until its usefulness can be determined!!

Stop whining about being poor.
I wish storage was increased like tripel maybe. I have a char right now that has every sigile inventory slot filled with 250 iron ingots in each slot. He is my guildes iron pack mule. Every person was given an item to store for the rest of the guid on 1 char. Iron, Cloth, Fur, etc. We do this just for guild storage and it would be much nicer to have a place to drop these materials. Maybe a guild matterial storage bin that has a slot for each material (both rare and common) and an unlimited amount of that material can be stacked there.

I never agree with Stevo except on this occasion - he is dead on the money.
Storage is adequate as is IMHO.

I like to save the collector's stuff. There's about 100 of them. I probably should either salvage the stuff or sell it dirrectly to the merchants, but I just can't.
Anyway, for the price of another account you can get some 200+ more spaces of storage.

the storage is fine. plus, you can buy a pouch and increase its size to 10. also, you have 2 more bag slots. there's more than enough storage.

Sorry. I don't subscribe to the ideal that people who HAVE should complain they should have more. I'm not greedy. If I was, I'd spend 50% of my play hours selling and an equal amount farming with no time for playing the game.
Giving extra storage space only contributes to hoarding and if you thought prices were rediculous now. See what they would be like when people have more luxury to hold onto things. Emphasis on luxury.

rather than increase storage and argue if it is needed or not maybe solve both qualms that exist in this form simply by raising the matierial stack amount from 250 to lets say 300. No abuse to the poor, no increase in storage slot abuse, yet every packrat can hold more materials which is mostly what is horded for obvious reasons of not wanting to pay the spot rate 6 missions down the line.
Edit: speaking of spot rate...we could create a whole market of hedges and have an alternate market of future contracts and forwards...oohh the complicatedness of it is inspiring, very real world.

That may be the case. It was just an idea I was throwing out to find the middle ground.
But now I really like this idea of having future contracts. To heck with the Chicago Options Exchange when there is a Tyrian Options Exchange selling wood contracts and Ectoplasm contracts. How nifty
/me proud of myself. lol

I wish that futures and options and contracts were added to GW. It would be lots of fun.
